Here in the Northern Hemisphere, summer is in full swing, and it’s a great time for writers to catch up on reading, research new markets, and get their business on track for the rest of the year. I’ve been using some much-needed downtime to work my way through a backlog of magazines and search for new freelance writing markets.
In fact, I’ve just added several freelance-friendly web markets to The Urban Muse Guide to Online Writing Markets. Now the total number of paying markets listed in the eBook is close to 50! (It’s already 50+ if you count the fact that a few of the companies listed own multiple sites.)
To celebrate the sun-soaked, beach-filled awesomeness that is summer, I’m offering a special eBook price now through July 7. The Urban Muse Guide to Online Writing Markets is regularly priced at $15.99, but enter discount code sizzle during checkout, and you’ll get tons of online market tips and tricks for just $9.99 (that’s a savings of almost 40%!). As an eBook customer, you’ll also have the chance to sign up for an exclusive email list that will keep you up-to-date on new markets as soon as I add them to the eBook.
Still not convinced? Read what the eBook reviewers said about it …
“There’s a true gold mine hidden in the second half of The Urban Muse Guide to Online Writing Markets. Not only does Susan tell you how to go about landing online writing opportunities, but she gives you pages of markets you can query and, quite likely, write for.”
~Thursday Bram, ThursdayBram.com“Susan knows her stuff—she has a variety of clips from both print and online pubs … and the information is presented in an organized, easy-to-follow manner … All in all, this book is a great tool for any writer who is looking to expand beyond traditional magazine markets!”

Yes, this e-book has definitely helped me–I've broken into 2 new markets so far. It's a great resource for anyone looking to write for web-based publications.
Glad to hear it! Can't wait to read your articles. Thanks, Sara.
Hi Susan, I just have a quick question about your book before I buy: do you touch upon travel writing markets at all? That's really the only kind of writing that I do, and I was wondering how much the book focuses on that market. Thanks!
@Barbara: There are a couple of travel and lifestyle markets, but many more technology, business, and other types of markets. Of course, there's also lots of info on writing queries, brainstorming for ideas, etc., which would be applicable across lots of different niches.
I just bought the e-book. Can't wait to get started!
I've sold 2 articles in 4 pitches. The query advice really gave me the confidence I needed. Thanks!
I started reading your ebook and I have a question.
I have some articles published EzineArticles and Associated Content. They were original published on my blog first and then I submitted to those sites.
Do they count as published clips?
@Marilyn: That's a great start! Once you get assignments from other websites (ideally those that are more hands-on in the editing process), I'd focus on those clips when you're sending out queries.
Thanks Susan! I accepted an assignment through Associated Content just now. I'll work on a few before query somewhere else.
Another thing, the links in ebook are not working. They appear to be just texts. Do I need to do something more?
@Marilyn: Sorry about that! I tested it on a Mac and PC and it worked, but sometimes people's individual computer settings interfere with the links. If you email me at Susan AT susan-johnston DOT com, I'll send you the Word doc. (It also has the links, so they should work.) Thanks.
Please don't worry about it. I understand about computer setting. I just sent you the email. Thanks!
