It’s been a little over a year since I last posed this question. Most of you know you can email me or comment if you’d like to see something specific here on the blog. But today I’m encouraging you to voice those opinions (I know you have them) and tell me what type of content you’d like to see in the future on this blog.
Do you want to see more of the author interviews I used to do? Are you interested in writing tips or more posts on the business side of freelancing? Maybe you’d like to watch some video blogs about freelancing instead of reading every single post? Or is there something missing that I haven’t even thought of? Do tell!

Perhaps this is too basic, but I'm still new at this. I would like to see examples or guidelines for queries for magazines and newspapers. Are they just like those for books? Or where do you go to find this info? Thanks.
Not at all! Here are a few links you might find helpful on the topic of querying:

Hi Susan! Thanks so much for asking us.
I'd love to see more on topics like time management. You're always doing so much between writing for the Web, teaching classes, updating this blog and working with copywriting clients. I'd love to know how you structure your day and make time for everything.
Also, what about something on how you write an article and set your freelance rates? For instance, how long does it take you to create a 500 word article? How much would you typically charge for something like that? Not sure if these are good topics, but just something I've been thinking about lately.
Thanks again!
I think it's great when bloggers ask their readers what they'd like to see more of in the future.
A couple things I'd like to see is blog posts about staying motivated and how to tackle writer's block (and procrastination).

@Margarita: I can certainly cover time management in the future, but I'm a big proponent of doing what works for you, not what you read in some book or on a blog. I've tried carefully structuring my day and I found that it didn't work because inevitably something came up that derailed me. And I can cover the factors involved with setting rates, but again, it tends to be pretty individualized. Thanks for the suggestions!
@The Red Angel: For me, the biggest motivator is wanting to continue freelancing AND being able to pay my rent (not to mention a few nice dinners every once in a while). But I'll make a note to cover this more in the future. Thanks!
Susan, I'm most concerned about the business aspects of having a business. The writing, I feel I can deal with pretty well, but that element of it overwhelms me. I know there are other resources for this, but would love to hear fresh, personal thoughts.
I love to see more interviews on your site especially on the upcoming writers and first time authors.
Carrie
Thanks so much for asking! I would love some information on the business side of the blog. How do you attract advertisers? Is this something you can do yourself or is it best to hire a marketer?
What kind of stats do you need on your blog to make it attractive for an advertiser?
Appreciate your help!
@Petey: Good question! I don't approach advertisers on my own, because I'm part of an advertising network called BlogHer Ads. I know there are other networks out there for Mommy blogger, food bloggers, etc. For more on advertisers and the business side of blogging, I recommend reading this interview with Julia Scott of The Bargain Babe.
