Last week I had this wacky idea that I could write an essay about attending one of my brother's campaign events and get it published before the election.
My first thought was "That's crazy! Most of the publications you write for plan several weeks, or even months, in advance. And after November 4, no one will care how you and your brother feel about the election."
But I wrote it anyway and crossed my fingers. Now my election-themed essay appears in The Christian Science Monitor. Crazy, huh?

Awesome! Congratulations.:)
He is great and I love him for his politics. :)
It's a great article! Any chance we can get the photo op photo posted here on your blog somewhere? Maybe after McCain has won? ;)
Major kudos!
As a liberal coming from a family of Republicans (some incredibly conservative), I really enjoyed your essay.
Thanks Susan. It's a great photo of you, your brother, and your mom. I did notice the pin on your brother's navy blue blazer as you wrote about in your article. When I think of Boston, McCain doesn't come to mind but the photos indicate there is some support for him there. I see the aspiring fashion designer (Meghan) has some shirts for sale on her blog. I got a kick out of the McCain Lovin ... and Palin, too! shirt. I've got a Bush/Cheney campaign sticker out in the garage and I'm not sure what I want to do with it after looking at my 401K recently. I'll go vote but sometimes it makes me wonder if it really matters who's sitting in the big house. I guess that's all the more reason to appreciate the efforts of your brother.
I loved reading every word, Susan! And, those last few words made such an impact on the story. You go girl!!!!
*smiles and hugs*

Yes, the Monitor usually works 4 weeks ahead for essays, but I've also found that they'll grab something fast if they really like it or it's timely. Congrats!
Congratulations! What a great accomplishment!
Awesome article, I enjoyed reading!
Thanks, all! For those who haven't heard the CSM is switching formats next spring, so it's kind of nice to have that essay in there before they go digital.
