These days news about the recession is everywhere: on TV, in the newspaper, online, even on freelance blogs that wouldn't otherwise cover financial topics.
Although banks are failing, the outlook isn't all grim. In fact, the biggest difference I've noticed is that clients are taking a little longer to issue payment (which is worth noting, but not hardly cause for alarm). Still, I'm a saver by nature, so I'm certainly not making any extravagant purchases these days.
Here, I've rounded up a list of interesting posts relating to freelancers and the recession (including a few from yours truly in case you missed them earlier).

Great post! Well, I decided to leave corporate America and join my twin sister in our freelance translating business in the middle of well, a recession, so I have been very careful with my costs. So far, so good.
For instance, I got a new Blackberry from Costco (had to turn in the good old Blackberry to my former employer), but chose not to add the e-mail feature, which saves quite a bit. I don't really need it, but I was addicted to it.
I just switched our landline to Vonage, which adds up to fantastic savings. For international calls, I still use www.jajah.com, which is fabulous. Other than that, I am foregoing getting a laptop this year. I would like a new one, but I don't really need one. Luckily, since I have no commute these days, I save money on gas (but it's not that much, as I drive a Prius). I like your BookMooch suggestion; I have to check it out.
@Judy and Dagmar: Sounds like you're doing well. I had no idea you could get a BlackBerry from Costco - very resourceful! Even if you don't pay for email on your BlackBerry, maybe you could used web-based email if you have browser capabilities? That's what I do because it's easier to synch up my Gmail account that way. Before I was getting duplicate emails.
I use Skype for almost all my calls so I don't use up cell phone minutes for work calls. $3/month gets unlimited calls to US/Canada!
Hi Susan
Your question and blog post inspired my own blog post. I always like to think that with every implosion there exists opportunities for creative people who are paying attention, and today's current economy is no exception.

I'm trying not to listen to all the doom & gloom about the economy OR the publishing biz. ;)
@yokel: I'm flattered to be your inspiration, and I look forward to reading your article.
@angie: that's probably smart. No need to get discouraged.
I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
