A Lesson in International Diplomacy

This summer my two roommates departed for India and Japan while I held down the homefront. A few weeks ago, the one in India announced that she was moving out at the end of August. I waited for the other roommate to return from Japan so we could post on Craig's List and host an open house.

We found someone who seems like a great roommate prospect, but the catch is that she's in Greece until early September. I've had roommates in the past who have been apartment hunting long-distance, so this didn't seem like a huge hurdle.

Until this week.

Between the emails to India and Greece and to my landlord trying to iron out the details, I'm starting to feel like I need an escape to somewhere sunny and exotic. Somewhere they don't use the terms "security deposit" or "rental agreement" or "could you tell so-and-so that I need her to..." I hear Mars is lovely this time of year...

Ugh, roommate and landlord politics. At least you're not the one moving! The mere thought of the chaos of moving makes me shudder.

lol - Or Ireland! Except for the record-breaking rain and flooding we've been having. :( Hang in there!!

Actually, I'm moving into the vacant room and the new tenant is taking my room. It's a bit of a pain, but it's worth it for a closet! Not nearly as much stress as switching buildings, though.

and 'Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus'. Be sure to bring the BF along so he can show you the sites - couldn't resist that one. :)
The roommate in India - that would be the one with the phone calls so I guess you won't have to deal with future calls.
As far as being stuck in the middle - it just happened to me today. It stinks but I got caught even though I try to avoid those situations. I have found that when dealing with certain people and encountering certain circumstances it's just where you end up regardless of your efforts to avoid it. It's part of life and life goes on and you get a little smarter but then you find yourself in the middle again. The trick is to learn and decrease the frequency of occurrence. I think that's why they call it c'est la vie!
