Clip: Ban Bad Habits

As I’m brainstorming for article ideas, I’m realizing that many of my “teen zine” ideas could work for women’s mags, too, and vice versa. After all, woman are really just grown-up girls. We may have more spending power and more shoes, but we still think about body image, relationships, self-improvement, and other similar topics. So, some of the ideas that didn’t sell last year may get a makeover this year for a slightly different audience.

In keeping with the theme of new year’s resolutions, here’s a clip from Relate magazine’s winter issue: Ban Bad Habits.

Hello Susan, Neat article there about Bad Habits. I like how bright and zippy it looks. Plus you’re so good with the current jargon and youth cultcha! (like texting BFF and tv shows and such). Neat point about the gossip – sticking to celebrity gossip, not about people we know. All good stuff about procrastination too. Do you have teen(s) in your life…or do you just relate with the high school set to come up with your various examples?

Happy New Year from Russia where it’s already Monday morning! Where as there on the east coast you’re busy wrapping up 2007. Anyway, all the best to you Susan in 2008!

    Eileen,
Thanks for the kind words and happy new year to you, too! I don’t have a niece or other teen girl in my life per se, but I’m not that far removed from teen culture, because it’s all online! So I read teen mags and watch their movies and TV shows, all in the name of research, of course. But really, I find teen girls really interesting because they’ve become so precocious but still struggle with the same issues my mom and I and all other women faced at that age.
    Susan
