100 Notable Books for 2007

The NY Times recently published their 100 Notable Books of the Year. I’m a bit ashamed to admit that I haven’t read most of these books (a few of them are sitting on my nightstand as bedroom decor pieces – does that count?). I was amused to see Pierre Bayard’s How to Talk About Books You Haven’t Read listed in the non-fiction section. That title is genius! I guess if I read that one, it pretty much covers all my bases, doesn’t it? I have two feature articles due on Friday and a lot of things going on this week, so posts might be a little spotty. Don’t worry – I’ll be back soon!

Yep, I feel completely out of the loop. I haven’t read one of the books on the list. Maybe I’ll pick up that one about how to talk about books I’ve not read… But then I would have read it… ;) )

  2. Trish Ryan says:

Man, if I hadn’t read Matrimony this weekend (an awesome novel, by the way–I was totally pulled into the story) that list would be “100 books Trish hasn’t read.” Not really a proud moment. I’ll have to pick up the 7th Harry Potter to make things better :)

    Hello, Susan–

What a reward for my first visit here! I’m checking out that great title—it might come in handy for the upcoming sound-bite schmoozing.

  4. Susan says:

Seriously… I was sort of at a loss when I skimmed the list! I’d glad to hear I’m not the only one.

  5. Irreverent Freelancer says:

Oh yes, count me among the avid readers who has read a total of one book on that list: The Maytrees, and that one only because I received it as an advanced reader review copy. In my defense, I usually wait for books to come out in paperback before I splurge on them. In a few years, if I re-examine the list, I’ll probably have read more. Hey, I’m just now finally getting around to Jane Eyre for the first time. ;o)

  6. Susan says:

Jane Eyre is one of my favorites! That’s a must read.

  7. Loy says:

Hmm, like Susan, i’d say I’m actually ashamed that I haven’t read any of those books. I even posted a blog about Graham Robb’s “The Discovery of France”, but where’s the time to read?

    It’s a shame!
